(CNN)-- The Jordan Football Association announced on Sunday via its social media accounts the appointment of Moroccan Badou Zaki as coach of the "Al-Nashama" team.

The Jordan Football Association said that Zaki (67 years old) will sign a one-year contract to lead the team in upcoming competitions, foremost of which is the Asian Cup finals hosted by Saudi Arabia in early 2027.

The appointment of Badou Zaki to the technical duties of the Jordan national team came after accepting the resignation of the other Moroccan coach, Jamal Sellami.

Sellami left his post shortly after the elimination of "Al-Nashama" from the group stage of the 2026 World Cup, held in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

Zaki has extensive coaching experience, having led the "Atlas Lions" to the final of the 2004 Africa Cup of Nations, and coached several clubs and national teams, including Wydad Casablanca, Fath Rabat, Kawkab Marrakech, and Ittihad Tanger in Morocco, as well as the national teams of Sudan and Niger.
