The Jordan Football Association announced on Sunday the appointment of Moroccan Badou Zaki as head coach of the national team for a one-year period to lead them in the 2027 Asian Cup finals after terminating the contract with his compatriot Jamal Salami following the end of Al-Nashama's journey in the 2026 World Cup. Jordan bid farewell to the World Cup from the first round after three defeats to Austria, Algeria, and Argentina, the title holders, leading Salami to leave his post at the beginning of this July. The Jordan FA stated on its website: 'The Board of Directors of the Jordan Football Association, chaired by Prince Ali bin Al-Hussein, decided to appoint Moroccan coach Badou Zaki as head coach of the first team to lead Al-Nashama in upcoming commitments, foremost among them the Asian Cup finals hosted by Saudi Arabia at the beginning of 2027.' The statement added: 'The announcement of the contract with Moroccan coach Badou Zaki comes with a one-year contract, after the Board of Directors approved during its meeting the resignation of national team coach Jamal Salami and the assistant technical staff, while expressing thanks and appreciation for their efforts during the past period. The new Al-Nashama coach will be introduced along with the announcement of the technical staff according to Zaki's recommendation.' The Jordan FA did not disclose the financial details of the contract for the Moroccan coach, aged 67. Zaki previously coached Morocco for the second time from 2014 to 2016 before Frenchman Hervé Renard took over from him, and he previously coached the Sudan national team in 2023, and the Niger national team from 2023 to 2026.
