Joan Laporta, president of FC Barcelona, praised the Moroccan national team after the levels it presented in the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

Morocco reached the quarter-finals of the World Cup for the second consecutive time, before losing to France by a clean 2-0.

Laporta said in statements to the Moroccan channel 2M: 'The Moroccan national team has very great potential, and it was a pleasure for me to watch them on television, because they are very strong and possess talent.'

He explained: 'There is (Azzedine) Ounahi who plays for Girona, and there are very good players in midfield and attack, as well as the striker.'

Regarding the reason for exiting the World Cup, Laporta said: 'Morocco faced special circumstances against France, and I think that match was slightly different from what the team had been doing from the beginning of the World Cup to its end.'

He concluded: 'But the last World Cup is considered a success for Morocco, that is clear.'

Laporta is currently in the United States to follow the final match of the 2026 World Cup, in which Spain will face Argentina tomorrow, Sunday, at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.
