Laporta's Response: New Development in Barcelona and Álvarez Saga
Barcelona president Joan Laporta responded to criticism from Miguel Ángel Gil Marín, CEO of Atlético Madrid, regarding Barça's attempt to sign Julián Álvarez, whom Atlético officials have confirmed is not for sale.
The newspaper Mundo Deportivo published Laporta's statements, which he made to Catalunya Ràdio while walking the streets of New York.
Laporta said, 'I respect everyone's opinion. All I know is that we made an offer, and the offer is still on the table.'
He added, 'At some point, we will announce from our side that this offer has expired. Will that be at the end of July? Most likely, yes.'
On the other hand, Laporta spoke about the good relationship between Barcelona and the Spanish Football Federation during his presence in the United States to follow the World Cup final.
Laporta said, 'The Spanish Football Federation and La Liga are here, and they invited us to attend the final. They are treating us excellently, a gesture we thank them for. We are taking this time to build relationships and discuss matters related to football.'
He noted, 'I am proud that Barcelona is represented by eight players in the World Cup final, which is extremely important for any player. On the other hand, we have the best player in the history of football, Lionel Messi, who came through Barcelona. In a way, Messi is still a decisive player and wants to maintain his dominance, while Yamal represents the present and the future, seeking to carry the torch after him.'
