Lindblad Lightning Fast on Track, Chases Driver's License Off It
Formula 1 rookie Arvid Lindblad had his first driving lesson on public roads just days before competing in the Belgian Grand Prix, despite regularly driving one of the world's fastest cars on racetracks.
The 18-year-old Briton spoke about this during an appearance in the Sky Sports commentary box during the international cricket match between England and India, which took place on Tuesday at Edgbaston.
The Racing Bulls driver said: "It's a bit sad that I still don't have a driver's license," when the topic came up for discussion.
He added: "It was funny at first, but now it's a bit ridiculous. So I'm working on solving this issue. I had my first driving lesson yesterday, so yes, I need to get the license soon."
Lindblad has passed the theory test, but despite regularly driving Formula 1 cars at speeds exceeding 200 mph, he is still not authorized to drive a car alone on public roads in Britain.
In contrast, Italian Kimi Antonelli, the championship leader and Mercedes driver with five wins, passed his driving test in his home country last year when he was 18.
Lindblad has scored points in the last four races of his debut season in the Formula 1 World Championship with the Red Bull-owned team, and currently sits 11th in the driver standings among 22 drivers.
He also expressed his anticipation for the Spa-Francorchamps race this week, especially tackling the famous and fearsome 'Eau Rouge' corner.
The British-born driver, whose mother has Indian roots, said: "I think it will be a completely different experience from anything I've done before," before receiving an England cricket jersey with his name on the back.
