Romelu Lukaku, Belgium's striker, affirmed that his team did not qualify for the quarterfinals of the 2026 World Cup in order to surrender or consider the match lost against Spain before playing it, indicating that they are 'fully ready' to face 'La Roja'.

Lukaku said during the press conference ahead of Friday's match at Los Angeles Stadium: 'If we have reached this level, we will not play to lose and go home. It is a very important stage, and we have the necessary talent and must be perfect against Spain.'

Lukaku stressed that to continue their World Cup journey, the Belgian national team will have to face a team that is 'very difficult and has played with the same style since 2018,' with players like Ferran Torres who 'give him attacking depth.'

Lukaku insisted on highlighting the opponent's strength, saying: 'Spain is a very complete team because they are very strong and have very intelligent players, which is why we have to deliver a perfect match.'

The Red Devils star pointed to his team's technical and physical readiness for the match, saying: 'Nevertheless, we are well prepared and have the capabilities to face them, and we are in very good shape, both physically and mentally, to take on this challenge.'

Regarding the possibility that this World Cup might be his last in his international career, Lukaku explained that he is in a complex situation and that it has been difficult, but he had a conversation with coach Rudi Garcia to know what he can offer to the Belgian national team.

The Belgian striker added: 'I want to give everything I can do on and off the pitch. I can make an impact on the pitch and reduce frustrations. It's about the group and the team's collective work.'

Lukaku concluded by acknowledging that it's not about what he wants, but what the team needs, saying: 'This has been my motivation all these years. I think first about the team, then about myself.'
