Manchester United has inquired about the possibility of signing French midfielder Aurélien Tchouaméni from Real Madrid.

The British newspaper 'The Sun' revealed that it had indicated last month that Mourinho, the new Real Madrid coach, does not intend to part with Tchouaméni, but that did not prevent the English club from contacting Real Madrid officials.

It noted that Tchouaméni began a three-week vacation after his participation with the French national team, which reached the World Cup semifinals.

It explained that Manchester United aims to sign Tchouaméni because he falls within the age group preferred by club officials for players between 22 and 26 years old.

Tchouaméni is under contract with the Madrid club until the summer of 2028, and it is rumored that he has agreed to extend his contract until 2031, but Real Madrid has not announced any official decision on this matter.

The Sun explained that Tchouaméni remains a different quality as a defensive pillar in midfield, unlike Manchester United's new arrivals, Andre Santos and Youri Tielemans.

Manchester United plans to sign a defensive midfielder to compensate for the departure of Brazilian Casemiro, whom Real Madrid replaced in 2022 by signing Tchouaméni.

Manchester United, led by coach Michael Carrick, began its pre-season friendlies with a 0-1 loss to Wrexham in Finland last Saturday, and the team will play another friendly against Rosenborg on Friday.
