Spanish world No. 82 Daniel Merida won his first ATP title by defeating Bosnia's Damir Džumhur 6-2, 5-7, 6-2 in the final of the Umag clay-court tournament (ATP 250) on Saturday. At 21 years and 10 months, Merida became the third youngest winner of the Croatian event, joining compatriot Carlos Alcaraz, who won at 18 years and 2 months, and Italy's Jannik Sinner, who won at 20 years and 10 months. "They are two of the best players in the world, and it's great to be in this group," Merida said after the victory. "Of course, I am still far from them, but I will continue working to get as close as possible," he added. "It was a crazy match, but I'm very happy with the level I showed this week and with winning my first title," the player continued. Merida had reached the final of the Bucharest clay-court tournament last April, finishing as runner-up. This title will give him the best ranking of his career, moving him up to world No. 58.
