Moroccan international defender Issa Diop expressed his delight at joining English side Ipswich Town, after signing a contract until summer 2030 from Fulham.

Diop said after the official announcement of the deal on Wednesday: 'I am very excited about the next step in my career with Ipswich Town. I know the size and history of the club, and I enjoyed all the conversations before making my decision.'

He added: 'I feel that this is the right place for me. It has been a busy summer with the Moroccan national team at the World Cup, but I am proud to join the club, and I look forward to meeting the coaching staff, my teammates, and the fans soon.'

For his part, head coach Gary O'Neil welcomed the player's arrival, praising his vast experience in the Premier League with Fulham and West Ham, and said: 'Issa is a seasoned player who has played a large number of matches in the Premier League, and we are delighted to have him join us. He is a strong defender who adds experience and stability to the defensive line.'

Issa Diop is considered one of Ipswich Town's most notable signings during the current summer transfer window, as part of the club's preparations for the Premier League following its return to the competition.

Ipswich hopes that Diop will give their defensive line more strength and stability, benefiting from his long experience in English football and his physical abilities.

Fulham had agreed to the Moroccan defender's departure, despite having one year left on his contract, preferring to benefit from his sale during the current transfer window rather than risking him leaving for free next summer.

Five World Cup appearances and one goal over the summer.

Issa Diop is now an Ipswich Town player.
