(CNN)-- The Egyptian Football Association sent a congratulatory message via its social media accounts on Wednesday to an Egyptian refereeing team after their participation in the 2026 World Cup.
The refereeing team, consisting of Amin Omar as the referee, Mahmoud Abou El-Regad and Ahmed Hossam Taha as assistants, and Mahmoud Ashour as the VAR referee, officiated some matches of the current World Cup.
Four Egyptian referees participated in the tournament, held in the United States, Canada, and Mexico, for the first time in history, as this had never happened before.
Referee Amin Omar stood out in his first match, which was between the national teams of South Korea and the Czech Republic in the group stage, and his officiating received widespread praise.
The Egyptian Association said: 'The Board of Directors of the Football Association congratulates the Egyptian refereeing team after its participation in the 2026 World Cup.'
The Egyptian Association explained that it will organize a tribute ceremony for the refereeing team at the association's headquarters in the coming days.
