Mustafa Shubair, the goalkeeper of the Egyptian national team, praised the level displayed by Moroccan Yassine Bounou, affirming that he is considered one of the best goalkeepers in the history of Arab football, and also expressed his pride in the comparisons made between him and the Moroccan goalkeeper.

Shubair said in television statements that his relationship with Bounou goes beyond the limits of competition on the pitch, pointing out that there is constant communication between them.

He added: 'Yassine Bounou is a wonderful person, and we are in constant contact. He congratulated me after the Argentina match, and I also made sure to contact him after his remarkable penalty save against the Netherlands. I see him as one of the best Arab goalkeepers in history.'

Pride in the comparison

Shubair confirmed that the comparison between him and Bounou represents a positive motivation for him: 'It is natural for there to be comparisons between us, but for me, it is wonderful to be compared to a great goalkeeper like Yassine Bounou.'

The Egyptian national team goalkeeper talked about the most prominent strengths of Bounou, explaining: 'Bounou excels greatly in penalty shootouts, and is skilled at using mind games with opponents, and he is also one of the best goalkeepers in dealing with one-on-one situations.'

Mustafa Shubair had delivered impressive performances with the Egyptian national team during the 2026 World Cup competitions, before the 'Pharaohs' were eliminated from the tournament in the round of 16 after losing to Argentina 3-2, while the Moroccan team left the competition in the quarter-finals after losing to France, led by Yassine Bounou.
