Norwegian Federation pursues Infantino after "Trump and Balogun" scandal
يتحرك الاتحاد النرويجي لكرة القدم رسمياً ضد تدخلات سياسية أفضت لتراجع الفيفا عن عقوبة طرد المهاجم الأمريكي بالوجون.
The Norwegian Football Federation decided to take an escalatory step in the case of lifting the suspension of Folarin Balogun, the American player, after his red card against Bosnia and Herzegovina in the round of 32 of the 2026 World Cup.
Donald Trump, the President of the United States, intervened to lift the suspension on the player and give him the opportunity to play against Belgium in the round of 16, an incident that sparked great anger against Gianni Infantino, the FIFA president.
In an interview with "The Times", the president of the Norwegian Football Federation, Lise Klaveness, announced that the federation would refer the matter to FIFA's Ethics Committee to shed light on the intervention of Donald Trump, the US President, who personally contacted Gianni Infantino, the FIFA president, to obtain a decision to cancel the suspension of the American striker during the World Cup.
Lise Klaveness believes that this decision sets a dangerous precedent, and stated: "When a rule like this is manipulated, you slide down a slippery slope that threatens the entire game."
She also called on Gianni Infantino to admit that "this was a mistake."
According to the latest developments, Mohamed Al-Kamali, chairman of FIFA's Disciplinary Committee, lifted the suspension on Balogun. The Norwegian Football Federation's complaint is expected to be added to a previous lawsuit filed against FIFA.
