New York Post: Trump Wants to Nominate Infantino for UN Secretary-General
The newspaper quoted sources as saying that the US president wants the FIFA president to succeed António Guterres when his term ends later this year

The New York Post reported that US President Donald Trump wants to nominate FIFA President Gianni Infantino as UN Secretary-General, succeeding António Guterres whose term ends at the end of this year.
The newspaper quoted sources it described as informed as saying that Trump believes Infantino, 56, born in Switzerland, 'is respected worldwide and has an exceptional ability to bring people together.'
It added that Trump believes Infantino would be suitable for the post of UN Secretary-General.
For his part, Paolo Zampolli, a special representative of Trump, told the New York Post that Infantino is capable of successfully carrying out the task, arguing that there are similarities between the FIFA presidency and the UN Secretary-General post.
Selecting a UN Secretary-General requires the candidate to obtain the support of at least 9 members of the Security Council, and none of the five permanent members may use veto power, before his appointment is approved by the UN General Assembly.
