The International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) has put Michael Olise, the star of the French national team, on the brink ahead of the match against Morocco in the 2026 World Cup in the USA, Canada, and Mexico.

Morocco will face France tomorrow, Thursday, at Gillette Stadium in Boston, USA, in the opening match of the World Cup quarter-finals.

About 24 hours before the match, French radio Monte Carlo reported that FIFA had rejected the appeal filed by the French Football Federation to cancel the yellow card Olise received against Paraguay.

Olise helped lead Les Bleus to the World Cup quarter-finals after a 1-0 victory over Paraguay last Sunday in the round of 16.

However, the French winger received a yellow card in the 90th minute after a collision with Matías Galarza, where Olise pulled his opponent's shirt, before the latter fell to the ground holding his face, even though the footage did not show any direct contact to the face.

The French Football Federation had hoped to have that card canceled, but its wish was not granted, leaving Olise threatened with missing the semi-final match if France qualifies, should he receive another yellow card against Morocco.

It is worth noting that the current World Cup witnessed a similar incident that sparked widespread controversy, after FIFA decided to suspend the automatic suspension of American striker Folarin Balogun following the red card he received during the match against Bosnia in the round of 32.

Balogun played in the round of 16 match against Belgium, despite objections from the Belgian and European football federations, but he failed to save his national team from a heavy 4-1 defeat afterwards.
