(CNN) – The president of Atletico Madrid, Miguel Angel Gil, closed the door on Barcelona president Joan Laporta regarding efforts to sign Argentine forward Julian Alvarez, and confirmed that the club "does not want to sell him" even if Barcelona made an offer of 200 million euros.
The president of Atletico Madrid said in a video published on the club's official YouTube page: "My position is clear... the club's intention is clear... and we have explained it to the player, the fans, and the president of Barcelona."
Gil added: "I have no doubt that Atletico Madrid is the right place for Julian Alvarez and that Julian is the ideal forward for Atletico Madrid."
The Atletico president continued about Alvarez: "We want him to stay with us and I recently heard statements from the Barcelona president that the offer he made to Atletico Madrid is not eternal, and the only possible answer is that our answer is certainly unlimited: we do not want to sell him."
Gil added: "We did not accept the 100 million euro offer, and we will not accept the 150 million euro offer, nor the 200 million euro offer."
Barcelona president Joan Laporta had recently said that the offer the club made to Atletico regarding Alvarez has a specific limit, and that the club is interested in signing the Argentine forward but also has other options.
Barcelona has shown interest in Alvarez since the beginning of the summer and made him an offer weeks ago, but Atletico rejected it, yet the Catalan club has not lost hope of signing the forward.
