Manchester City announced on Thursday its official signing of midfielder Elliot Anderson from Nottingham Forest in a record deal worth around £116 million (€135 million), according to British media reports.

Anderson, 23, signed a contract until summer 2031, becoming Manchester City's most expensive signing, surpassing the €117.5 million deal for Jack Grealish from Aston Villa in 2021.

The deal also became the second-largest transfer for an English player, behind Morgan Rogers' recent move to Chelsea from Aston Villa for £117 million, while the record for the most expensive signing by an English club remains with Liverpool after signing Swedish striker Alexander Isak from Newcastle for £125 million.

Anderson told the club's official website: 'Manchester City is one of the biggest clubs in the world, with a fantastic group of players in every position. Since I learned of the club's interest in signing me, I wanted to make this move happen.'

Anderson began his career at Newcastle United's academy before moving to Nottingham Forest in summer 2024, where he played 75 Premier League matches over two seasons and helped lead the team to qualification for a European competition for the first time in the 2024-2025 season.

Manchester City's sporting director, Hugo Viana, said: 'Elliot has developed significantly in recent years and has shown a constant desire to improve his game, which makes us excited to have him join the team.'
