Yesterday, Friday, saw a strange coincidence in the Saudi League, coinciding with the last Arab team match in the Round of 32 of the 2026 World Cup between Egypt and Australia.

The Egyptian national team defeated its Australian counterpart via penalty shootout in the match that brought them together on Friday in Dallas, USA, in the Round of 32 of the 2026 World Cup, qualifying for the Round of 16 for the first time in its history.

Hours before the match, two Saudi clubs announced the signing of Australian coaches to lead them during the upcoming 2026-2027 football season.

The first was Al-Ettifaq Club, which announced on Friday morning that it had signed Australian coach Arthur Papas, after he won the Best Coach award in the Japanese League with Cerezo Osaka last season.

A few hours later, Al-Nassr Club surprisingly announced the signing of another Australian coach, Ange Postecoglou, to lead the team for the next two seasons, replacing Portuguese coach Jorge Jesus.

It is worth noting that the Egyptian national team will face the winner of the match between Argentina and Cape Verde, which kicks off shortly, next Tuesday in Atlanta, USA.
