A Deal on the Horizon.. New Support for the Red Devils' Midfield

Manchester United has reached a preliminary agreement with Roma and France midfielder Manu Koné, moving closer to securing the deal after a battle with Arsenal.

The French international has been the target of several clubs this summer, and further boosted his reputation with some impressive performances for the French national team during the 2026 World Cup, where he was one of the tournament's biggest surprises.

Arsenal has shown interest in the 25-year-old player, while reports also claim that Chelsea has held talks with his representatives regarding a move to Stamford Bridge.

According to the English newspaper Metro, Old Trafford has become the most likely destination for Koné, as United rebuilds their midfield this summer after already signing André Santos and Youri Tielemans from Chelsea and Aston Villa respectively.

Red Devils manager Michael Carrick wants to add a third player to the midfield as United returns to the elite in the Champions League next season, and has been in regular contact with Koné's representatives.

French newspaper L'Équipe reported this week that Manchester United has the 'advantage' in the race to sign Koné, indicating that the midfielder would welcome a move to the Red Devils.

Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport explained on Thursday that an agreement has been reached between the two parties, with Roma expecting an official offer from the English club.

Koné's price was set at €50 million (£42 million) during the summer transfer window, and Manchester United was prepared to make a bid close to that figure.

But the Italian newspaper stated that Roma now wants €60 million (£51 million).

Saudi club Al-Ahli also contacted Roma regarding the French player's transfer to the Saudi Pro League this summer, before Manchester United moved closer to finalizing the deal officially.
