Medical Statement Shocks Dutch Star

Barcelona FC officially announced on Thursday the final diagnosis of the injury of Dutch midfielder Frenkie de Jong, which he sustained while playing for his national team in the World Cup.

De Jong had left the Dutch national team camp injured, causing him to miss the start of the new season with the Catalan club.

Barcelona clarified in an official statement posted on its 'X' account that the medical tests the player underwent confirmed he suffered a tear in the lateral ligament of the right knee.

The club added in its statement: 'It was agreed that the player will continue to receive treatment and close medical follow-up, based on the evolution of his condition in the coming weeks.'

Barcelona did not specify the official length of de Jong's absence from the field in its statement, but Spanish newspaper 'Sport' indicated that the Dutch international will be out for a period exceeding four months.
