English Premier League club Chelsea announced on Wednesday the signing of Portuguese winger Giovanni Quenda from Sporting Lisbon, as the 19-year-old agreed a contract until 2034. Quenda arrives at Stamford Bridge after a remarkable rise at Sporting, having helped the club to a domestic league and cup double last season. Quenda said in a statement: 'Chelsea is a great club and I am excited to play here at Stamford Bridge. The club has shown confidence in players like me and I am proud to be here, proud to be a part of it.' Quenda was named the Portuguese League's Young Player of the Year in 2025 and made 86 appearances in all competitions for Sporting over two years. He became the youngest goalscorer in Sporting's history, as well as the youngest Portuguese player to score in the UEFA Champions League. Quenda has represented Portugal at Under-21 level and was selected in the Team of the Tournament at the 2025 UEFA Under-21 European Championship. Chelsea begin their Premier League season away to Fulham on August 24.
