(CNN)-- FIFA President Gianni Infantino sent a thank-you message to the Egyptian national team after the end of their participation in the 2026 World Cup.

The 'Pharaohs' team had reached the round of 16 in the current World Cup for the first time in its history.

Mohamed Salah's teammates defeated New Zealand 3-1, drew 1-1 with Belgium and Iran, then beat Australia on penalties in the round of 32, before losing to defending champions Argentina 3-2.

Infantino posted video clips of the 'Pharaohs' players on his Instagram account on Saturday, commenting: 'Thank you to the Egyptian national team.'
