(CNN)-- The Egyptian Football Association announced on its social media platforms on Wednesday its approval to renew the contract of the head coach of the 'Pharaohs' national team, Hossam Hassan, and the administrative director, his brother, Ibrahim.

The association said the decision came 'within the framework of the board's keenness to complete the technical project of the national team and build on the historical achievements made for Egyptian football in the recent period.'

The head of the Egyptian Football Association, Hany Abo Rida, explained that the association will complete the procedures for adopting and renewing the contract during its next meeting, as soon as the national team delegation arrives in the country.

Hossam Hassan had led his country's national team to reach the round of 16 in the 2026 World Cup, for the first time in its history of participation in the tournament.

The 'Pharaohs' team bid farewell to the World Cup, held in the United States, Canada, and Mexico, from the round of 16 after losing to Argentina 3-2 in a match played on Tuesday.

The coach, aged 59, took over the national team in February 2024.
