Secret Meeting in New York: Klopp's Contract with Red Bull to Be Terminated Within Hours
German football officials are meeting with Red Bull's sports CEO Oliver Mintzlaff in New York to negotiate an early termination of Jurgen Klopp's contract so he can take over as coach of the national team.
Media reports confirmed that officials from the German Football Association will meet with Oliver Mintzlaff, the sports CEO of Red Bull, tomorrow (Tuesday) in an attempt to finalize the termination of Jurgen Klopp's contract with the German national team so he can take over as coach.
According to the German magazine Kicker, the meeting will discuss the possibility of ending Klopp's contract with Red Bull early; the contract runs until 2029, with Klopp serving as head of global football for the group. Mintzlaff will meet with Klopp in New York later this week.
Klopp has already reached a preliminary agreement with officials from the German Football Association, including president Bernd Neuendorf and vice president Hans-Joachim Watzke, during a meeting held in the United States, where the former Borussia Dortmund and Liverpool coach is working as a sports analyst for Magenta TV during the World Cup.
Klopp is set to sign a contract running until 2030, but the agreement with Red Bull, where he currently works, has not yet been finalized.
The possibility of Klopp remaining with Red Bull as a brand ambassador is being strongly discussed in the media, but some officials in the German Football Association do not support this solution.
Kicker explained that Klopp might be allowed to continue advising the global company's sports franchise division during times when he is not working with the national team.
The German national team needs a coach after Julian Nagelsmann resigned following their elimination from the Round of 32 in the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Mexico, and Canada at the hands of Paraguay.
