Strong Message for Morocco: Spanish Federation President Erupts Over 2030 World Cup Final
Rafael Louzán, president of the Spanish Football Federation, has reignited the debate over which country will host the 2030 World Cup final, sending a sharp message to Morocco and insisting that Spain is leading the organization of the historic edition, rejecting any doubt about this role.
Morocco, Spain, and Portugal are jointly hosting the 2030 World Cup, but the race to host the final remains open, with Spain insisting on holding the final at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium, while Morocco seeks to host the match at the new Hassan II Stadium in Casablanca.
In remarks reported by Portuguese newspaper 'A Bola', Louzán expressed his displeasure with reports suggesting Morocco's chances of hosting the final are increasing, saying: 'Sometimes I feel anger when I see that Spain is leading this World Cup, the centenary World Cup, and then doubts are raised about this. There should be no questioning of Spain's role.'
He added, 'It is not good for the joint bid to be weakened by talk of such matters,' referring to the controversy over which stadium will host the final.
The Spanish federation president also expressed annoyance at the timing of news about the Moroccan bid, noting that it emerged on the same day the Spanish and Moroccan national teams were playing matches in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, which, in his view, reignited media competition over the final.
Despite the heated debate, Louzán expressed confidence in his country's position, stressing that Spain holds the leading role in the joint project, and said in a stern message: 'I have said it before, Spain is leading this World Cup.'
Louzán's comments come amid growing speculation about which stadium will host the 2030 World Cup final, as FIFA has yet to decide on the matter despite the ongoing competition between the Santiago Bernabéu in Madrid and the planned Hassan II Stadium in Casablanca.
