The Swiss national team bid farewell to the World Cup amid a state of intense anger towards the refereeing crew, as head coach Murat Yakin and many players criticized the decision to send off Breel Embolo, asserting that that incident was the turning point that decided the match in favor of the Argentine national team.

According to the Spanish newspaper Marca, Yakin expressed his displeasure after the end of the match due to the second yellow card shown by the referee to Breel Embolo in the 72nd minute, after reviewing the incident via the video technology screen.

Referee Silva Peniero had initially called a foul against Leandro Paredes and showed a yellow card to the Argentine player, before it became clear there was an error in identifying the player, which necessitated applying the protocol.

After reviewing the incident, the referee considered that there was no foul by Paredes, and showed the yellow card to Embolo for simulation (diving), a decision that sparked widespread anger within the Swiss national team.

Yakin said: 'We were punished for a mistake. That card had no basis. I don't understand it. It was a very normal incident, and there was no bad intention. That decision was simply unbelievable. I completely disagree. There was clear contact, and I don't understand how the referee and VAR reached that conclusion.'

He added: 'I won't say they had an advantage. We played a clean and open match, and both teams played football. Today, football did not win. We were punished for a mistake, and that was a decisive moment that determined the outcome of the match. We can complain now, but I must congratulate Argentina.'

The Switzerland coach continued: 'The game plan worked again today. If we analyze the course of the match, we will find that we were much better than our opponent. We came back in the score, and the moral advantage was in our favor. We wanted to introduce new players in the forward line, then came that wrong decision. I don't know why this rule was invented, but my players were heroes.'

He continued: 'I cannot comprehend being weakened in this way. Embolo fought with all his strength and endured many challenges. That decision baffled me and had no justification. It is a pity. We missed a great opportunity, and unfortunately our journey has ended. It is painful, but we can be proud of what we have achieved. These are my true heroes.'
