Sinner joins Zverev in Wimbledon final
Italy's defending champion Jannik Sinner ended Serbia's Novak Djokovic's latest bid for a record 25th Grand Slam title with a dominant 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 victory to reach the Wimbledon final on Friday. The scorching temperatures from previous days dropped during the second men's singles semi-final, but Sinner made it difficult for the 39-year-old Djokovic. Sinner will seek his fifth Grand Slam title on Sunday when he faces Germany's Alexander Zverev, who earlier ended Britain's Arthur Fery's run on Centre Court.
The top-seeded Sinner has improved as the tournament progressed after a slow start to his title defense, and was at his sharpest from the first game against the player he lost to in the same stage of the Australian Open this year. The 24-year-old Sinner turned up the pressure in the second set, and Djokovic's resistance crumbled at 3-3 when he was caught out by a brilliant drop shot from his Italian opponent. The match was effectively decided when Sinner, playing with fluidity, broke Djokovic early in the third set, and although Djokovic continued to fight, resignation was written on his face as his hopes of an eighth Wimbledon title faded.
