Szoboszlai ends speculation with Liverpool contract
Hungarian international midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai signed a new five-year contract with English club Liverpool on Friday, ending speculation about his future. There were two years remaining on Szoboszlai's previous contract with the Reds, but the Hungary captain was rewarded for his outstanding performances last season. Negotiations between the representatives of the 25-year-old player and Liverpool sporting director Richard Hughes appeared to have stalled last season. However, talks accelerated in recent weeks, and Szoboszlai eventually signed a new improved contract. Szoboszlai has become a key figure at Anfield since joining from German club Leipzig in 2023. He scored 13 goals and provided 12 assists in 53 appearances last season, becoming the first Liverpool midfielder to reach double figures in both categories since Steven Gerrard in the 2013-14 season. Szoboszlai won the English Premier League title and the League Cup with Liverpool, and was named as the club's Player of the Season in a fan vote.
