(CNN)-- Erling Haaland and his Norway teammates lost to England 2-1 at the Hard Rock Stadium on Sunday night in the 2026 World Cup quarterfinals.
The match saw Norway players object to some decisions by the refereeing team led by French referee Clément Turpin and his compatriot Jérôme Brisard, the VAR official, who had previously assisted in officiating a match between Egypt and Argentina in the Round of 16.
Haaland's teammates claimed that the ball touched the overhead camera cable in the stadium while in the air before the start of the attack that led to England's first goal, scored by Jude Bellingham in the 45+ minute, demanding it be disallowed due to an external factor interference.
FIFA said on its X account regarding this refereeing incident: 'Before England's goal, the sensor in the ball showed no peak in the ball's pulse while it was in the air, therefore there is no evidence that the ball touched the overhead cable and changed its trajectory.'
Journalist Fabrizio Romano posted a tweet on his account praising Bellingham after his brace against Norway.
Haaland's father, Alfie, replied to the tweet, sarcastically saying: 'Well done... Bellingham and the referee.'
