Czech Linda Nosková, ranked ninth in the world, won the Wimbledon women's singles title for the first time, defeating her compatriot Karolína Muchová in three sets on Saturday in the final.
Nosková clinched the match with difficulty against the world No. 10, with scores of (6-2, 5-7, 6-3) in two hours and 27 minutes, avenging her loss last year in the round of 32 at the 2025 US Open.
Nosková controlled the flow of play from the start to easily win the first set, but she suffered a collapse due to nerves in the second set, where she led 5-2 before Muchová rallied to turn the match around and win 7-5.
In the decisive set, many expected Nosková's collapse to continue, but on the contrary, she managed to regain her balance, controlling the play and taking the lead from the start, finishing the set in 44 minutes.
With this victory, Nosková became the youngest Wimbledon women's singles champion at 21 years and 236 days, since her compatriot Petra Kvitová lifted the trophy in 2011 at the age of 21 years and 116 days.
The final was the first at Wimbledon to feature two Czech players, while the last all-country final was in 2009 when American Serena Williams defeated her sister Venus Williams, preceded by the 1971 final between Australians Evonne Goolagong and Margaret Court.
For the third time in the past four years, a Czech player has won Wimbledon, following Barbora Krejčíková in 2024 and Markéta Vondroušová in 2023, while Polish Iga Świątek won the title in 2025.
