The Big Four.. An Unprecedented Event in the World Cup Semi-Finals
The lineup for the 2026 World Cup semi-finals was completed, after the Argentine national team secured the last ticket by defeating Switzerland (3-1) in extra time, early Sunday morning.
The semi-finals will feature a fiery clash between France, top of the FIFA world rankings, and Spain, ranked third, while Argentina, ranked second in the world, will face England, ranked fourth.

According to statistics network 'Squawka', this is the first time in World Cup history that the semi-finals include the four highest-ranked teams in the FIFA rankings, a historic precedent reflecting the dominance of the game's giants in the current edition of the World Cup.
France had defeated Morocco (2-0) in the quarter-finals, while Spain eliminated Belgium (2-1), and England beat Norway by the same score.
In the Argentina-Switzerland match, the tango dancers took the lead through Alexis Mac Allister in the 10th minute, before the European side equalized in the 67th minute through Dan Ndoye, sending the match into extra time.
Argentina sealed the victory with two late goals, scored by Julián Álvarez in the 112th minute and Lautaro Martínez in the 120+1 minute.
For the first time in World Cup history, the semi-finals will be contested by the four highest rated sides from the FIFA rankings:
