Barcelona is facing a real dilemma in the renewal file of its Spanish striker Ferran Torres, whose contract ends on June 30, 2027, due to a contractual clause that obliges the Catalan club to pay 8 million euros to Manchester City if the player's contract is extended.

The Catalan newspaper Mundo Deportivo revealed that this clause was imposed by City during the negotiations for the transfer of the 26-year-old player in December 2021, and it was approved by Mateu Alemany, the former head of transfer negotiations at Barcelona at the time.

The situation is further complicated by serious interest from Paris Saint-Germain in signing the former Valencia striker, as French sources have confirmed a good understanding between the two parties, despite not reaching a preliminary agreement yet.

In press statements upon his arrival in Dallas, United States, last Sunday, Barcelona president Joan Laporta said: 'I heard something about PSG's interest, but we have no confirmation; he is a Barcelona player,' adding that the player has not informed the club of anything regarding his future or what he wants to do.

Despite the financial complications, Barcelona is still counting on Ferran Torres for next season, and there is even a desire within the club to renew his contract, but without a significant increase in his salary, which has already been considered high since his signing in 2021.

This clause puts the Blaugrana management in front of difficult choices, as they would have to pay an additional 8 million euros to Manchester City on top of what they will pay the player himself in case of renewal, making the deal more expensive amid the critical financial situation the club is going through.

Barcelona's management is waiting for Ferran Torres to finish his participation with the Spanish national team in the 2026 World Cup to open serious negotiations with him, in an attempt to decide his future before he enters the final year of his contract, which could give interested clubs the opportunity to negotiate with him freely.
