The home of Spanish international winger Lamine Yamal was the target of a burglary attempt in the early hours of Wednesday, hours after 'La Roja' defeated France 2-0 in the semi-final of the 2026 World Cup, according to police and Catalan media on Wednesday. A spokesperson for the Catalan police said: 'An armed burglary attempt took place at a residence in the city of Esplugues de Llobregat on the outskirts of Barcelona,' clarifying that 'he cannot reveal the identity of the owner to protect his privacy.' According to the Catalan newspaper La Vanguardia, the property belongs to Yamal. The newspaper explained that two masked individuals scaled the wall of the house, but fled after being surprised by private security personnel. La Vanguardia noted that the property previously belonged to former international defender Gerard Piqué and Colombian singer Shakira, when they were living together in Barcelona. The Catalan police also announced an investigation into another 'violent theft' targeting a home in the same city, near Yamal's residence. Burglaries at the homes of football players, especially in the capital Madrid, are common, with many having fallen victim in recent years, most notably Frenchman Karim Benzema, Brazilian Rodrygo, and Dani Carvajal.
