Reports: Al-Nassr Nears Loan of Colombian Jhon Duran to Portugal's Benfica
European press reports have indicated that Portuguese club Benfica is close to reaching an agreement with Saudi club Al-Nassr to sign Colombian striker Jhon Duran on loan, a deal expected to be announced in the coming days.
According to what French site Sport.fr reported citing Portuguese newspaper A Bola, sources clarified that Al-Nassr will continue to bear a large part of the 22-year-old player's salary, as a key condition for completing the deal, due to Duran's high salary compared to the salary cap in the Portuguese league.
The reports added that Jhon Duran had joined Al-Nassr in January 2025 from English club Aston Villa, in a deal worth €77 million after his standout performances with the English team.
A New Chance to Regain Form
The reports indicated that the move to Benfica gives Duran a chance to regain his form, especially given the Portuguese club's track record in developing strikers and returning them to the European spotlight, along with the expected participation in the UEFA Champions League.
In the same context, the reports showed that the loan alone will not be enough to revive the player's career; he must deliver strong performances and score regularly to prove his ability to return to his previous level, especially as he is still 22 years old and has a chance to revive his football career.
