England manager Thomas Tuchel said on Saturday that his team was 'lucky' after narrowly beating Norway 2-1 after extra time to reach the semifinals of the World Cup in North America.

The angry Tuchel was in no mood to celebrate after Jude Bellingham's goal secured the second comeback win for the Three Lions in a tense match at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami.

The German said in a pitchside interview moments after his team's victory: 'We made things very, very difficult for ourselves today.'

He added: 'The result is great. Reaching the semifinals is amazing, but I'm not happy with the performance.'

He continued: 'The commitment was there, but the way we played made things very difficult for us: our style of play, how we played, chaotic, too cautious, not quick enough, and not enough. We were lucky today.'

England will now face either Argentina or Switzerland in Atlanta on Wednesday, as they seek to reach their first World Cup final in 60 years, when they won their only title to date on home soil.

But Tuchel stressed that his team needs to improve if they want to go further in the tournament, saying: 'We need to improve. Now it's time to celebrate, to live in the moment. We have three days,' referring to the semifinal match on Wednesday.
