South Africa's Ministry of Sports announced the death of international midfielder Jayden Adams, who played in all three of his country's group stage matches at the 2026 World Cup.

Adams was part of a historic journey for 'Bafana Bafana' (South Africa), as they played their first knockout match in this tournament.

FIFA President Gianni Infantino offered his condolences.

The country's football players' union said: 'South African football has lost a talented player, a dedicated servant of the game, and a young man who still had much to offer.'
