Ruben Amorim, the former Manchester United coach, has expressed interest in signing one of his former players for his new club, Milan.

According to journalist Matteo Moretto, new Milan coach Amorim is very impressed with Manchester United defender Noussair Mazraoui, and may seek to sign him later in the current summer transfer window.

Moretto said on Fabrizio Romano's YouTube channel: "Noussair Mazraoui is one of Amorim's favorite players. But so far there are no ongoing negotiations, and there is no direct contact between the clubs."

He added: "But what I can say is that Mazraoui, 28, whose contract runs until 2028 with an extension option, is a player highly regarded by Amorim. Let's see if Milan will target him later in the transfer window."

He concluded: "As of today, I am talking about the manager's approval. Amorim values Mazraoui's qualities."

Since the 20-time English league champions have not yet signed a left-back, there is every chance that the Moroccan will play as a backup for Luke Shaw, as he did effectively with his national team in the 2026 World Cup.

He excels as a right-back, and given that United will compete in four competitions, there will be plenty of minutes available for the former Ajax star on both flanks.

Mazraoui will only leave Old Trafford if the club decides to strengthen its defense, with ongoing speculation about signing Borussia Dortmund's Julian Ryerson.
