Video: With Yamal's assist, Oyarzabal scores historic goal in semi-final
Mikel Oyarzabal, the Spanish national team player, scored the first goal for 'La Roja' against France in the 22nd minute of their 2026 World Cup semi-final match on Tuesday evening.
The goal came from a penalty kick, which Lamine Yamal earned after Lucas Digne kicked him instead of clearing the ball.
Oyarzabal scored after clear Spanish dominance in the opening minutes of the match, with obvious tension among the French players.
According to Squawka, Mikel Oyarzabal equalled the historic record for the most goals scored by a Spanish player in a single World Cup edition.
Oyarzabal raised his tally to 5 goals in this edition, equalling the records of Emilio Butragueño (1986) and David Villa (2010).
