For the first time in World Cup history, the tournament is being held in three host countries: the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

One of the key developments in the 2026 edition is the increase in the number of participating teams to 48.

Sixteen cities in North American countries are hosting tournament matches. The competition kicked off in the Mexican capital, Mexico City, on June 11, while the final match will be held on July 19, 2026 in New Jersey, United States.
