X platform has launched a completely new version of its Android app after more than a year of development, confirming that the app has become faster, smoother, and more reliable, aiming to accelerate the rollout of new features and improve user experience.

X's head of product, Nikita Bier, said the app was rebuilt from scratch, describing the project as “one of the largest engineering projects in the company's history.” He added that the development process took more than a year with a team of about 12 engineers.

Bier explained that the update process is not yet complete, as the company plans to add new features in the near future, most notably hosting audio conversations “Spaces,” in addition to improving app performance on older phones.

Bier noted that rebuilding the app gives the development team the ability to launch new features very quickly, while acknowledging that there are still some aspects that need improvement, calling on users to send their feedback to help develop the app.

Bier revealed that the company is also working on a set of new features, including video interaction, an integrated video editor, and improving the capabilities of the “Spaces” feature. In contrast, the current version already includes a number of additions, such as the Custom Timelines feature for displaying custom content.

X confirmed that new features will reach Android users before being released for iPhones, a change from the approach many companies and apps have taken by prioritizing iPhone users.

X is betting on this strategy to boost its global reach, especially since Android holds the largest share of smartphone users in many countries, which could give the platform a greater opportunity to attract users by offering the latest features to them first.
