If you have ever lost an important answer from ChatGPT amid your long conversation history, that struggle is finally over. OpenAI has launched a major search update that allows users to find old conversations, projects, files, and images from one place.

Before this update, the search feature in the sidebar only showed previous conversations, while uploaded files, projects, and images created by ChatGPT were completely outside the search scope.

Now, the new search feature is available on the web, iOS, and Android, and for all ChatGPT plans, including free accounts, according to the official ChatGPT account on X.

Users can start searching directly from the sidebar in ChatGPT, as before, but now the search includes all content in the account, not just conversations.

If the user wants to narrow down results, they can use filters to search by content type, such as showing only images or files related to a specific project.

When the desired result is found, selecting it opens the conversation, project, or file directly within ChatGPT, eliminating the need for long scrolling between conversations.

The launch of this feature also coincides with OpenAI's recent release of the GPT-5.6 model, which comes with a set of improvements, including a new AI agent called 'ChatGPT Work' capable of executing entire projects instead of answering individual questions.

The new search system in ChatGPT does not change what is saved in the account, but makes accessing all saved content much easier.

This feature is particularly useful for users who rely on ChatGPT for ongoing projects, research, or document analysis. By bringing everything together in one searchable place, users can find what they need, filter results, and get back to work in seconds.
