White House: Iran Wants to Reach a Deal and Talks Continue
White House spokesperson Karoline Leavitt said today that Iran is still in talks with the United States and shows a desire to reach an agreement, affirming that negotiations have not ended despite the ongoing US strikes on Iran in recent days.
Leavitt added, during a press briefing, in response to a question about whether the negotiations had reached a dead end or ended completely, that she spoke with President Donald Trump about an hour ago, indicating that Iran 'continues to talk with the United States and expresses its desire to reach an agreement with us, because it is being subjected to devastating strikes by the US military,' according to Al-Sharq news channel.
Leavitt attributed the recent strikes to what she described as Iran's violation of the memorandum of understanding signed with Washington, explaining that the memorandum obligates Tehran not to fire on commercial vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz.
She continued: 'Unfortunately, Iran made a tragic decision for itself by doing that, and President Trump will not stand idly by and allow these terrorist acts in the strait without ensuring that Iran pays the price, and that is what we are witnessing now.'
