Saudi Arabia Showcases Its Experience in Building a Comprehensive National AI System
Saudi Arabia showcased, on the sidelines of the Global AI Summit, its experience in building a comprehensive national AI system that combines responsible governance with the expansion of technology applications across various sectors, affirming that this system is based on strengthening regulatory and ethical frameworks, developing advanced computing infrastructure, supporting research and innovation, and building national capabilities.
This took place during a panel session organized by the Communications, Space and Technology Commission (CST) with the participation of the Saudi Data and AI Authority (SDAIA), the International Center for AI Research and Ethics (ICAIRE), and Prince Sultan University, as part of the Kingdom's efforts to enhance international cooperation and exchange expertise and best practices in the field of artificial intelligence.
The participants highlighted the contributions of national entities in developing the AI system in the Kingdom and the steps achieved in governance and ethical frameworks, along with growing investments in computing infrastructure and programs supporting innovation and scientific research, which contribute to cementing the Kingdom's position as a global model in developing responsible and scalable artificial intelligence.
The session also addressed the Kingdom's experience in employing AI technologies in several vital sectors, including government services, health, and media, where participants emphasized the importance of building an integrated system that balances technological development with the requirements of trust, transparency, and inclusivity, while taking into account local values and cultures.
The session witnessed a high-level discussion on the most prominent lessons learned from the Kingdom's experience in the responsible expansion of AI and the opportunities available to enhance international cooperation in governance, investment, and innovation in infrastructure, enabling countries and institutions to benefit from successful experiences in building sustainable national AI systems.
The participants affirmed that the Kingdom is moving at an accelerated pace towards building a more sustainable, reliable, and inclusive digital future by strengthening international partnerships, supporting innovation, and developing regulatory frameworks that ensure the responsible use of AI in the service of economic and social development.
