Google Launches New Method to Recover Locked Accounts

Washington, July 23 /QNA/ Google announced the launch of a new feature that allows users to regain access to their accounts if they forget their password or lose traditional verification methods, such as their phone, computer, or two-factor authentication apps.

The feature relies on recording a short video of the user's face, then comparing it to a reference video previously saved by Google, to verify the account owner's identity before allowing login or account recovery.

Google confirmed that the reference video is stored encrypted on its cloud servers, allowing it to be used from any device when needed, but users can delete the video at any time from their account settings, noting that its use is limited by default to identity verification.

Google explained that it uses multiple layers of protection to detect impersonation attempts using fake images or videos based on deepfake technologies, in addition to its usual security systems to monitor suspicious login attempts, indicating that it will gradually roll out the feature to users worldwide.
