WhatsApp has launched a new feature to enhance account protection by replacing the six-digit two-factor authentication code with a password containing letters and numbers, providing a higher level of security when logging in.

Its length ranges between 6 and 20 characters.

The platform explained, according to the specialized site WABetaInfo, that the feature is still under development, and will allow users to create a password ranging from 6 to 20 characters, containing at least one letter and one number, with the ability to modify or delete it later from the app settings.

It added that the password will be required after entering the verification code sent via text messages when logging in, and will work alongside two-step verification if enabled, as an additional security layer to prevent account takeover even if the verification code is obtained.

It noted that WhatsApp has not set an official date for the feature's launch for all users, as it is still being tested in beta versions, and is expected to be released in a future update after development and testing phases are complete.
