Google Maps Shows Traffic Lights on Streets
Google Maps Shows Traffic Lights on Streets
Millions of people use Google Maps for navigation daily, and Google often builds new features to improve its map service. Now it has been revealed that Google Maps is testing showing traffic lights on streets on Android devices only.
The folks at Droid-Life obtained several screenshots showing the Google Maps app displaying traffic lights. A user living in West Des Moines, which will soon become a Google Fiber city, showed several different points around the city clearly displaying traffic lights at intersections. The lights can be seen in the traditional map view as well as during navigation mode.
The size of the icons increases during navigation, but Google has not yet included them in the list of instructions, nor highlighted their location along your route, etc.
This feature could be useful for a number of reasons, but particularly for navigation, it may be helpful for future planning and avoiding getting caught if you encounter a traffic light. However, the app will not be able to display the current status of the traffic light, and this test appears to be limited to certain areas or cities only.

You can probably imagine how useful this new feature is in the app, as it will allow the user to know whether their route is full of traffic lights or not. It is worth noting that Apple introduced this function for its own Maps service last year.
