Huawei has officially started testing eSIM technology in its upcoming Mate 90 series, in preparation for unveiling the new generation later this year. This step follows the company's introduction of its first eSIM-supported phone last year, the Mate 80 RS Ultimate edition.

According to leaked information from Chinese sources, Huawei is testing new options for using eSIM technology, and it is expected to include higher-end models such as the RS Ultimate Design and Pro Max, while base versions may retain support for traditional SIM cards only.

Last year, Huawei adopted for the first time a setup of 'two physical SIMs + two eSIMs,' allowing users to connect up to four numbers and use two simultaneously. This contributed to reducing the thickness and weight of the phone compared to phones relying solely on traditional SIMs.

The company previously used this technical solution in some of its other phones, such as the Pura X Max and Pura 90 Pro Max. Current data indicates Huawei's intention to expand the adoption of this technology in the Mate 90 family.

The Mate 90 series is expected to bring notable improvements in performance and photography, as well as new technical features debuting in Huawei devices. The full reveal of the series is anticipated in September.
