Samsung adopts silicon-carbon batteries for the first time with Galaxy Z Fold 8, Fold 8 Ultra, and Flip 8

Samsung unveiled the new generation of its foldable phones, which this time is characterized by adopting silicon-carbon (SiC) battery technology for the first time in its smartphones, after years of using traditional lithium batteries.
This move follows the adoption of this technology by several Chinese brands starting in 2023.
Silicon-carbon batteries have higher energy density compared to lithium-ion batteries, allowing for larger capacities within the same dimensions, thus enabling companies to equip their phones with higher-capacity batteries without increasing size or weight.
Samsung finally responded to user demands, especially regarding its foldable phone series, which previously suffered from lower battery capacities compared to competitors.
The company launched, within its new series Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, Z Fold 8, and Z Flip 8, its first phones equipped with these batteries.
Thanks to this technology, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra got a battery capacity of 5,000 mAh, while the Galaxy Z Fold 8 was equipped with a 4,800 mAh battery, a notable increase from the 4,400 mAh capacity in the previous generation.
As for the Galaxy Z Flip 8, despite adopting the same technology, it maintained the same battery capacity of 4,300 mAh, while reducing the device thickness to become thinner than the previous version.
This change is Samsung's biggest battery upgrade in its foldable phones in years, and may pave the way for wider adoption of silicon-carbon batteries in the company's other phones, including the Galaxy S, Galaxy A, Galaxy M, and Galaxy F series in the future.
