Samsung announced during the Galaxy Unpacked 2026 event its foldable phone Galaxy Z Fold 8, which this year comes with a new design wider than the previous generation, in addition to launching a Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra version, with improvements including screen, battery, and durability, while maintaining the focus on AI features.

The Galaxy Z Fold 8 is Samsung's lightest foldable phone yet, weighing 201 grams compared to about 215 grams on the Galaxy Z Fold 7. The phone also received a different design that makes it shorter and wider, approaching the user experience of traditional phones when folded.

The internal screen measures 7.6 inches, Dynamic AMOLED 2X type with QXGA+ resolution (2448×1848 pixels), while the external screen comes with a size of 5.5 inches and FHD+ resolution (1972×1248 pixels), with support for a 120Hz refresh rate on both screens.

Samsung explained that the external screen adopts an aspect ratio of 10:16 to provide a more comfortable experience for messaging, web browsing, and watching short clips, while the internal screen has a ratio of 4:3 to provide more space for gaming, watching movies, reading e-books and long articles, confirming that the aspect ratio design was aligned with daily content usage patterns.

The company adopted the new Flex Titanium technology for the screen, which reduces the appearance of the crease in the middle of the screen, with improved durability and resistance to damage. Both screens are also equipped with a low-reflection layer to facilitate use outdoors and under sunlight.

The phone runs on the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy processor, and includes a battery with a capacity of 4800 mAh, compared to 4400 mAh in the previous version, in addition to supporting AI features via Galaxy AI and Gemini.

In photography, the phone features a main rear camera with 50 MP resolution and a wide sensor, plus an ultrawide camera with 50 MP resolution, with digital zoom up to 10x, and the ability to record video at 8K resolution at 30 frames per second. It also includes two front cameras with 10 MP resolution for both the internal and external screens.

Samsung has opened initial reservations for the Galaxy Z Fold 8 through its official website and authorized stores, at a starting price of $1,900 US dollars, and it will be available in markets starting next month, with storage options of 256 GB, 512 GB, and 1 TB.
