At the Galaxy Unpacked 2026 event, Samsung unveiled its foldable phone Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, which represents the new pinnacle of its product line, equipped with upgrades in display, camera, battery, and performance, alongside the announcement of the standard Galaxy Z Fold 8.

These announcements come at a time when competition in the foldable phone market is intensifying, as companies seek to offer more advanced devices at competitive prices.

The Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra retains a design close to its predecessor Galaxy Z Fold 7, but it is slightly thinner when unfolded at 4.1 mm thick instead of 4.2 mm, while the weight remains at 215 grams, making it among the lightest in its category.

In contrast, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 adopts a different design with a wider display, giving it different dimensions from the Ultra version and targeting users who prefer an experience closer to traditional phones.

The Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra features an internal display with a resolution of 2504 x 2256 pixels, and an external display with a resolution of 1080 x 2520 pixels, while the Galaxy Z Fold 8 comes with an internal display resolution of 2448 x 1848 pixels and an external resolution of 1972 x 1248 pixels. All displays are AMOLED 2X with an adaptive refresh rate up to 120 Hz and Vision Booster technology for improved visibility under bright light.

Samsung maintained the hinge design without significant changes, continuing to support the IP48 standard for water and dust resistance.

In terms of imaging, the phone retained the main camera with a resolution of 200 megapixels, adding HDR support to improve dynamic range and image quality. The company increased the ultra-wide camera resolution from 12 megapixels to 50 megapixels, providing higher detail in wide shots and close-ups, while the telephoto camera remained unchanged at 10 megapixels.

Samsung also added support for APV encoding and Cine LUT technology for recording video at 8K resolution with higher quality and greater flexibility in color grading.

The phone is powered by a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy processor, and features a larger battery with a capacity of 5000 mAh, compared to 4400 mAh in the previous generation. Samsung also introduced a dual-path 45W charging system that distributes power efficiently inside the battery for more stable and reliable charging.

Samsung did not make major changes to the rest of the specifications compared to the previous generation, focusing this year on improving the user experience, performance, and cameras.

The company made the phone available for pre-order through a number of stores and carriers, with the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra starting at $2,100, while the phone will be officially available on August 8th.
