Saudi Team Wins 5 Awards at International Physics Olympiad
The Saudi physics team won (5) international awards at the International Physics Olympiad (IPhO 2026), held in Bucaramanga, Republic of Colombia from July (4 to 12), 2026, with the participation of (381) male and female students representing (87) countries.
Student Mohammed Abdulrahman Al-Arfaj from the General Administration of Education in the Eastern Province won a silver medal, while Mohammed Mahmoud Al-Ramil from the General Administration of Education in the Eastern Province, Reda Salem Al-Khamis from the General Administration of Education in Al-Ahsa Governorate, and Hussein Habib Al-Saleh from the General Administration of Education in Riyadh Region won (3) bronze medals, and student Nasser Hisham Al-Sha'ie from the General Administration of Education in Riyadh Region received a certificate of appreciation.
This achievement came after an advanced training journey undertaken by the students as part of the Mawhiba International Olympiads Program, which began with participation in the National Science and Mathematics Olympiad "Nesmo", through a series of specialized training forums and programs, culminating in an intensive training stage, under the supervision of a select group of local and international experts.
The King Abdulaziz and His Companions Foundation for Giftedness and Creativity "Mawhiba" explained that the Kingdom's tally in the International Physics Olympiad rose, as a result of this participation, to (8) silver medals, (26) bronze medals, and (23) certificates of appreciation, an achievement added to the series of successes recorded by the Kingdom in global scientific forums.
This achievement reflects the excellence of Saudi students and their ability to compete in one of the most prestigious international scientific competitions, and embodies the impact of the strategic partnership with the Ministry of Education in building a national system for discovering, nurturing, and empowering gifted individuals, and preparing them for global competition in the fields of science and innovation.
The International Physics Olympiad (IPhO) is one of the most prestigious international scientific competitions for secondary school students in the field of physics, combining theoretical and practical tests that measure deep understanding of physical concepts, and the ability to analyze and experiment, and provides students with the opportunity for scientific competition and exchange of experiences with an elite group of young talents from different countries around the world.
